Sydney Cable Landing Station

There are now five submarine cable landing stations in Sydney (Sydney CLS), for AJC, PPC-1, Southern Cross and Telstra Endeavour.  Pacific Fibre cable is also going to land in Sydney as well.

The Alexandria cable landing station and the Paddington cable landing station are located at the southern of Sydney, with cables landing at Tamarama Beach and Clovely Beach.

The Brookvale cable landing station, the Oxford Falls cable landing station and the Cromer cable landing station are located at the north of Sydney, with cables landing at Narrabeen Beach and Collaroy Beach, the Northern Sydney Submarine Cable Protection Zone.

According to the Telecommunications and Other Legislation Amendment (Protection of Submarine Cables and Other Measures) Act 2005, the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has declared two submarine cable protection zones in Sydney:

  • the Northern Sydney Submarine Cable Protection Zone extending from Narrabeen beach to 40 nautical miles off shore; and
  • the Southern Sydney Submarine Cable Protection Zone extending from Tamarama and Clovelly beaches and extending 30 nautical miles off shore.
